#Korean IGRINS Legacy Programs
IGRINS Legacy Programs are those with significant legacy values of creating a substantial and coherent database of archived observations that can be utilized by subsequent IGRINS and other relevant observations. They must be programs that are of general and lasting importance to the broad astronomical community. Some of the governing principles of them are as follows:
The IGRINS Korean Legacy Programs (KLPs) include both Korea-only programs and Korea-University of Texas (UT) programs of a legacy nature. For the latter, only the Korean portion will be considered as part of the KLPs.
This call is the proposal call for the Korea-only programs. Up to 20 nights of observing time is available for this opportunity.
The primary purpose of the solicitation of the Korea-only programs is to encourage and facilitate Korea-led IGRINS science programs by guaranteeing a time to promising candidates for legacy programs in advance. Note that programs selected in this call are allowed to be developed into Korea-UT legacy programs later on by acquiring a UT portion of the observing time. If the (potential but unsecured) contribution of the UT time is an essential component of the proposals, they are expected to give a sufficient description of the nature of the envisioned collaboration with the UT.
The data obtained as IGRINS Legacy Programs are expected to enter the public domain immediately upon the verification of the data, thereby enabling timely and effective opportunities for follow-up observations and for archival research.
All accepted programs will be carried out only when the instrument test observation is finished successfully. We may have to cancel or delay some or all approved programs due to the unexpected trouble with the instrument and/or telescope.
There will be separate call for proposals for IGRINS normal observational programs, which is expected in the near future.
Eligibility: Principle investigator of a proposed program must be a Korean citizen or a resident in Korea who is officially affiliated with a Korean research institution or university.
There was a call for pre-proposals for the Korean IGRINS Legacy programs in 2013, which was meant to provide an opportunity for combining similar programs. After review by IGRINS Korean TAC, two programs were pre-selected and awarded some of the KLP time. More about the selected programs can be found here.
For those who plan to submit a similar or related proposals, we encourage you to communicate with the PIs of the pre-selected programs on potential co-proposals. If similar targets are proposed in different programs (e.g., young stellar objects for the studies of proto-planetary disks and outflows), observing time may be awarded only to the program of highest rank, or they may be asked to be merged. Therefore, for the potential proposals that may have similar targets of the pre-selected programs, it is best to coordinate with the pre-selected programs. This will promote more efficient use of the instrument time.

Each proposal must list all the members of the proposing team.
Each proposal must clarify whether the proposed program is open to a merge with similar programs.
Each proposal must clarify any requirement of proprietary period and its justification.
Any proposal that doesn't follow the instructions, including the page limit, may be discarded at discretion of the time allocation committee.
For approved proposals, their abstracts and the source lists will be made public.
