Invitation to the Korean Participation Group for LSST project operation
Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) intends to participate in the operation of the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) project, the largest wide-field imaging survey project in 2020s, through Korean Participation Group (KPG). KPG will be officially established by signing memorandum of understanding (MoU) between KASI and each institution with which the intended principal investigator(s) is/are affiliated. KASI will then make contract with the LSST project on behalf of the KPG. The PI should contribute a total of USD 200,000 (in 2013 USD value) for ten years starting from two years before the operation of the LSST, which is planned to begin in early 2020s. Each identified PI will have the following rights:
1. During construction phase of the LSST
a) full access to LSST simulated data and to data products produced through processing of the simulated data
b) attendance at their own expense to LSST meetings open to U.S. and Chilean scientists who are currently participating in the LSST project.

2. During LSST operations
a) full access to LSST image data, daily release catalogs, and annual data release catalogs, equivalent to U.S. and Chilean scientists
b) access to LSST-operated Data Access Centers equivalent to what is provided to U.S. and Chilean scientists, with the same privileges and responsibilities conferred, with the proviso that the PI will be responsible for the incremental costs associated with accessing the data
c) access to products prepared for Education and Public Outreach activities.

The above rights of each PI are extended up to four junior researchers working under the supervision of the PI. The junior researchers can be any mixture of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, with the restriction that: a) the mix should include no more than three postdoctoral researchers at a given time; and b) the junior researchers must be present at and affiliated with the corresponding PI’s institution.
