K-GMT Science Program Users Meeting 2026

한국천문연구원 대형망원경센터는 제7회 중대형망원경 사용자 워크숍을 개최하고자 합니다. 중대형망원경 사용자 워크숍은 K-GMT Science Program의 일환으로 2년마다 개최되고 있으며, 이번 워크숍은 2026년 8월 19일(수)부터 21일(금)까지 한국천문연구원에서 열릴 예정입니다. K-GMT Science Program은 다가올 GMT 시대에 대비하여 국내 천문학계의 광학⋅적외선 천문관측 연구를 활성화하고 연구 역량을 강화하는 한편, 학문후속세대를 양성하고 국제협력을 통해 우수 연구인력을 확보·육성하기 위한 프로그램입니다.

이번 워크숍은 Gemini 망원경을 비롯한 중대형 광학망원경을 활용한 최신 연구 성과를 공유하고, Gemini 천문대의 운영 현황과 향후 계획을 소개하는 자리로 마련하였습니다. 또한 현재 운영 중이거나 새롭게 기획 중인 관측 시설 및 기기와의 연계 가능성과 시너지 효과를 논의할 예정입니다. 아울러 Gemini 천문대 운영진이 새롭게 도입된 관측제안서 플랫폼(GPP - Gemini Proposal Platform)을 직접 소개하는 웨비나도 준비하였습니다. K-GMT Science Program을 통해 중대형망원경을 활용하고 있는 연구자는 물론, 앞으로 대형 광학⋅적외선망원경을 이용한 연구를 계획하고 있는 분들, 그리고 다가올 초거대망원경 시대의 천문학 연구에 관심 있는 모든 연구자 여러분을 초대합니다.

The Center for Large Telescopes at the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute is pleased to host the 7th K-GMT Science Program Users’ Meeting (K-GMT SP UM 2026). The K-GMT SP UM is held biennially as part of the K-GMT Science Program, and the upcoming workshop will take place at KASI from August 19 (Wed) to 21 (Fri), 2026. The K-GMT Science Program aims to prepare the Korean astronomical community for the upcoming GMT era by promoting optical and infrared observational astronomy, strengthening research capabilities, fostering the next generation of scientists, and securing and cultivating outstanding researchers through international collaboration.

This workshop will provide an opportunity to share recent scientific results obtained using large optical telescopes, including the Gemini Observatory, and to discuss the current status and future plans of the Gemini Observatory. The program will also highlight synergies with existing and newly planned observational facilities and instruments. In addition, a webinar will be offered in which Gemini Observatory staff will introduce the newly adopted proposal submission platform (GPP - Gemini Proposal Platform).

We warmly invite not only current users of the large telescopes supported by the K-GMT Science Program, but also all researchers planning to utilize large optical and infrared telescopes in the future, as well as anyone interested in astronomy research in the era of extremely large telescopes.
