K-GMT Science Program
Call for Proposals Cycle 1 (2014)
Introduction
K-GMT Science Group (KGSG) invites proposals for observations with two telescopes, CFHT & MMT, as the Cycle 1 of the K-GMT Science Program. The number of nights available with each telescope is as follows:
Table 1 - Available telescope time for Cycle 1 (2014 term)
Telescope |

CFHT |
4-5 nights |
MMT |
4 nights |
+ The available nights are for a whole year, not for a semester.
- Observing period
- CFHT : 2014A (Feb. to Jul.), 2014B (Aug. to Jan.)
- MMT : 2014A (Jan. to Jun.), 2014B (Jul. to Dec.)
- There is no limit on the fields of science that prospect proposals shall aim to address. However, preference will be given to proposals with sciences that can be applicable to GMT in the near future.
- The prospect proposers are advised to understand and follow the K-GMT Science Program guidelines. In particular, please be aware of the data handling & authorship policy.
CFHT | the midnight of Sep. 30th, 2013 (KST) |
MMT | the midnight of Oct. 7th, 2013 (KST) |

Types of Proposals
- Proposals will be accepted as far as they satisfy the policy of each telescope. However, Target of Opportunity (ToO) proposals are not allowed (at least for this cycle).
- The available observing modes (classical/queue) are limited depending on their availability and etc. (see below).
- For telescopes and instruments that support queue mode observations, there will be no limits on requesting time as far as it is within the available nights for a given year (typical range will be from a few hours to a few days). For classical observation, the minimum scheduling block will be one night.

- Requesting Time Limits
CFHT | Queue only |
MMT |

- For service mode observations (carried out by observatory staffs) of MMT, the proposer is responsible for a service observing charge (~ $1200 per night; subject to change). Proposals with queue/service mode observations MUST be consulted with KGSG before the submission. Contact us for any inquiry about the service mode observations.
Proposal Submission
Proposals should be prepared in english following the instruction of each telescope. In addition, a cover page for K-GMT science program, which includes your consent to the K-GMT Science Program guidelines, must be submitted.
- The eligible PIs of the proposals are researchers affiliated with Korean research institutes or universities, holding a position in the level of assistant professors/senior researchers or higher.
- MMT : Prepare the proposals using the LaTeX template available in the Telescope Proposals page of the university of Arizona.
- CFHT : Prepare the proposals using the CFHT online proposal submission system (you must save a pdf copy before submitting the proposal using the online system).
- MMT : The Scientific Justification section should not exceed 3 pages, including figures and references. The Experimental Design section must be at most one page. Otherwise, follow this guidelines.
- CFHT : The Scientific Justification section should not exceed 3 pages, including figures and references. The Technical Justification section must be at most two pages. Note that there also is a file size limit (each file should not exceed 10 Mbyte).
- you may submit the proposal either by email or using the web form at kgmt-sp.appspot.com.
- Prepare the proposal as described above.
- For CFHT, you should first submit the proposal within the CFHT online proposal submission system. But make sure you keep the pdf copy before the submission.
- Prepare the K-GMT Science Program cover page which includes a consent to the K-GMT Science Program guideline.
- Submit the pdf version of the proposal and the cover page to kgmtprop@kasi.re.kr.
- Prepare the proposal as described above.
- For CFHT, you should first submit the proposal within the CFHT online proposal submission system. But make sure you keep the pdf copy before the submission.
- Fill in the K-GMT Science Program web submission form (which includes a consent to the K-GMT Science Program guideline), attach the pdf copy of the proposal, and submit.

If you do not agree to some (or all) of the guideline and/or if you have special request (e.g., proprietary period and/or authorship), please describe it in the form with brief justification.
