IGRINS - Call for Proposals for DCT 2016Q4
IGRINS (Immersion GRating Infrared Spectrograph) is a high-resolution (R ~ 45,000), near-infrared (H and K simultaneously) spectrograph developed by Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute and the University of Texas at Austin. From September 2016, IGRINS will be visiting 4.3m Discovery Channel Telescope (DCT), operated by Lowell Observatory, for about 6 month. After planned commissioning in September, normal observations will begin in October and last until around March 2017 when IGRINS will return to McDonald. Here we solicit observing proposals for IGRINS during its visit to DCT.
There will be two types of observations. For Short Programs requesting less than a night, you may request queue observations. For observations requesting more than one night, you should consider Korean Strategic Programs. Multi-year or Long Programs requesting more than 3 nights are also available through Strategic Programs.
-
Queue observations
-
During the 2016Q4/2017Q1 visit, a total of about 10 nights will be available to queue observations, which will be shared among UT and Korean community. About 7 nights will be scheduled in 2016Q4.
-
Please use the form below to request queue observations
-
While there is no specified deadline for the queue request, we recommend you to submit the request “before 15th September.”

Korean Strategic programs
-
During 2016Q4/2017Q1 visit, about 10 nights will be awarded to Korean community as Korean IGRINS strategic programs.
-
This call covers both 2016Q4 and 2017Q1. The deadline for the Strategic Programs is “9th September”.
-
We also encourage you to request Multi-year or Long Program requesting more than 3 nights. IGRINS will be visiting DCT regularly, although the next schedule has not been firmly set.
-
Letter of Intent (LOI): To foster collaboration among the IGRINS community, we ask researchers planning to submit a Multi-year proposal or Long (>3 nights) proposal to submit a letter of intent (LOI) by e-mail to “kgmtprop@kasi.re.kr”. The LOI should be a plain text file containing a title, an author list and a paragraph briefly describing the proposal. All the submitted LOI will be posted on Korean IGRINS team homepage. The deadline for the LOI submission is 18th August. While submitting LOI is optional, we strongly encourage you to do so.
